🧶 The Crochet Blanket Challenge – Season 9, Episode 4
For my next Great British Sewing Bee challenge, I’ve jumped ahead a few seasons to tackle the made to measure challenge from Reduce Reuse Recycle Week Season 9 (Episode 4) — the crochet blanket challenge!
In the show, contestants were asked to upcycle old crocheted blankets into a wearable outfit, and I couldn’t resist giving it a go. There’s something so charming (and slightly terrifying!) about cutting into something handmade by someone else’s hands.
I found the perfect vintage crocheted blanket at my local op shop — a beautiful chevron pattern in bright earthy tones. It felt too lovely to leave behind, so it’s now becoming a semi-formal fitted dress, full of texture and warmth.
Before diving into the real thing, I made a wearable muslin in scuba to test the fit and structure — a great way to make sure my final piece does justice to that gorgeous crochet.
This one’s still a work in progress, but I’m excited to share a little sneak peek before the final reveal. Stay tuned for the finished photos and a closer look at how the transformation came together 🧵✨
